PCT is a 600 hour / 6 month program.  We start a new class in January, which finishes in June and then we start a new class in July which finishes in December.  Students start attending Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  After about 3 weeks students receive clinical instruction in different nursing facilities off campus.  Off campus clinicals could require that students attend on some evenings and weekends depending on the nursing facility.

We are continously taking applications for the next PCT program.  Enrollment is limited, if you are interested you should immediately call (386) 647-4210 to register for the TABE test. The TABE is a test of adult basic education and is required by the state of Florida for any person entering a vocational program. When you finish the TABE test you meet with the counselor, fill out an application and get your name on the waiting list for the next  PCT program.  You may also want to go ahead and apply for financial aid.  The website for the PELL Grant is:  www.fafsa.ed.gov and our school number is:  016824.

Job Opportunities:  Many of the students in the class are enrolled at the request of their employers. During the most recent follow-up survey (2009-10), 100% of the graduates were employed.

Licensure:  The program is accredited with the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, Inc.  Students have the option of taking the national board written and practical exam.  The exam is administered on the Suwannee-Hamilton Technical Center campus following each course.  National licensure is not required by the State of Florida but is requested by employers.

Special Considerations:  No student will be accepted that is not currently employed as a health care worker.  Clinical training is not part of this program.  Students already working at a site that uses phlebotomy skills and are planning to take the national board have an advantage when trying to meet board requirements for clinical experiences.

Program Cost:  The approximate cost for this program is $688.66.  Fees for the National Board Exam are the responsibility of the student.
